This announcement follows a formal resignation by United States Representative Bill Johnson on January 2, 2024, which becomes effective on January 21, 2024. Governor DeWine exercised his statutory authority to issue a Writ of Election directing the primary election to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the same day as the previously scheduled statewide presidential primary election. The Governor ordered a general election for the seat to follow on June 11, 2024.
